Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – The Resume Edge

1. How do the resume templates work?

Our resume templates are simple to use and designed for Microsoft Word. Each template is pre-formatted with text boxes filled with placeholder information. Simply click into the boxes to add your own details. Additionally, we've customized the Selection Pane in Word, with a logical naming structure for each element, allowing you to easily navigate and edit specific sections like headers, body text, and icons. We also include easy-to-follow instructions to guide you through the editing process, ensuring your resume looks professional and polished.

2. What can be edited in the templates?

Everything in our templates is fully customizable! You can modify:

• Fonts
• Text
• Colors
• Headers and sections
• Icons and layout

With the added benefit of the Selection Pane, each section is clearly labeled, allowing you to quickly locate and edit specific elements, making customization faster and more intuitive. This gives you full control to tailor the resume to your personal style or professional needs.

3. What format will the templates come in? | Can I reuse the template for multiple job applications? | How do I download my purchase?

All resume templates are provided in Microsoft Word format (.docx). Additional tools, including the Suitability for Position Template, Job Search Success Tracker, and Professional Development & Training Record, are in Excel format, helping you track progress and refine your job search.

Yes, the template can be reused for multiple applications. Simply save and update it as needed for different roles.

After purchase, download your files directly from Shopify under My Account > Orders or via the email link sent after purchase. All files are available for immediate download.

4. Do I need any special software to use the templates & will the template work on my device?

Yes, you’ll need Microsoft Word to edit the resume templates. Make sure you have the latest version of Word installed to ensure compatibility. If you don’t have Word, you can download a free trial at Microsoft's website: https://products.office.com/en-us/try (Copy and paste into your browser to access the link. If the link doesn’t work, search 'Microsoft Office free trial' in your browser).

Our templates are compatible with both Windows and Mac devices as long as Microsoft Word is installed (and Excel if you intend to use the additional resources). Since our main files are delivered in Word format, you won’t need additional programs.

5. What’s included with each template purchase?

6. Can I print my resume? & How do I ensure background colors and images appear when printing the resume?

Absolutely! While our templates are designed for the digital age, you can easily print your resume on any home or professional printer. For the best results, we recommend using a professional printing service and selecting high-quality paper to make your resume stand out.

To make sure background colors and images appear when printing, follow these steps in Microsoft Word:

  1. Go to File > Print > Page Setup.
  2. Select the Paper tab at the top.
  3. Click on Print Options.
  4. Under the "Printing options" section, check the box for Print background colors and images, then click Ok and Ok again to confirm.

7. What if I have trouble editing the template?

No worries! Here are some quick tips to help:

• Using the Selection Pane – Some shapes or backgrounds might interfere with editing. To hide them temporarily, go to the Home tab, click the Select dropdown under the Editing group, choose Selection Pane, and click the eye icon next to any item.
Rearranging Layers – If added elements (like photos) aren’t positioned correctly, use the Selection Pane to adjust layer order by dragging items up or down.
Zooming in – For small elements like lines or chart bars, zooming in makes them easier to adjust.

This document includes a link to the Google Drive folder where you can view and download the full set of User Guides and Resources. 9. Do I require specific software like WinZip or iZip to open my zipped folder?

For Windows:

• Built-In Utility – Windows has a built-in zip file utility. Right-click on the zip file and select "Extract All" to unzip it.
Alternative Software – While WinZip is an option, other free programs like 7-Zip or WinRAR can also handle zip files.

For Mac:

• Built-In Utility – macOS also has a built-in unzipping tool. Just double-click the zip file, and it will automatically unzip.
Alternative Software – iZip is one option, but other free tools like The Unarchiver are also available.

In general, most operating systems have built-in tools for zip files, so additional software isn’t usually necessary.
